Condor Cleared by DHS to Handle Counterterrorism Vulnerability Information
New federal regulations have given the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) the job of assessing all facilities using hazardous chemicals or weapons precursor chemicals for their vulnerability to terrorist attacks. The list of chemicals is larger than either the current EPA or California acutely hazardous chemical lists and the threshold quantities also are different, typically lower. The new regulations (6 CFR part 27) are not yet in effect. When activated, the regulations will require all facilities having chemicals of interest in amounts above the threshold quantities to register with DHS within 60 days and fill out a web-based form listing chemicals, amounts, and the expected distance of concern from a release. DHS will then notify the facilities if further information (a Security and Vulnerability Analysis and a Site Security Plan) is also required for the facility. If your plant is now covered under the CalARP program, it is likely that your plant will have to register with DHS. Condor Earth Technologies, Inc. can assist you to register. E-mail Robert Sherry in our Sonora office at dhscompliance@condorearth.com with your questions about the new DHS program.
