Condor at Planet Party Day

Jordan Johnson, one of Condor’s Environmental Specialists, gave presentations to ten different groups of sixth graders who attended Manteca Unified School District’s “Planet Party Day.” This was our second consecutive year of giving presentations and this year the sixth graders learned about the pH scale and were allowed to take pH samples of certain items like coffee, lemon juice, windex, and baking soda. Other participants were the California Department of Fish & Game, Salida Unified School District, South San Joaquin Irrigation District, Micke Grove Zoo, California Environmental Protection Agency, Cal Recycle, and Crystal Creamery (just to name a few).

Condor Tunneling Projects Continue to Grow Throughout State

Condor would like to announce that we continue to expand our tunneling projects throughout the state of California. In addition to four tunnel projects currently under construction in Napa and Sonoma Counties, tunnel construction recently started in Granite Bay (Sacramento area), at Saxum Winery in Paso Robles, at Oak Mountain Winery in Temecula, and tunnel construction is just wrapping up at Calera Winery near Hollister. Condor has teamed up with Earth Systems South and Cato Geosciences to cover construction observations and testing of materials in Temecula, and Earth Systems Pacific for similar services in Paso Robles. Design and permitting efforts are underway on numerous projects in the North Bay Area, Central Coast and Sierra Nevada. We anticipate tunnel construction starting in the next few months along the Truckee River in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, at Sinegal and Mountain Peak Wineries in Napa County, Knights Bridge and Buena Vista Wineries in Sonoma County, and at L’Aventure Winery in Paso Robles. Tunnel rehabilitation projects are underway or just finishing near Antioch (Bay Area) and in Placer County.

Phase 1 and Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments Presentation

September 18, 2014: Alex Dewitt of Condor was asked to give a special presentation on Phase 1 and Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments for the Manufacturer’s Council of the Central Valley. The presentation took place at Gallo Winery and was given for around 30 people. Alex’s willingness to take this on with relatively short notice kept us involved and present with Gallo and many of our other clients which is very important in continuing and maintaining our client relationships.

Above-Ground Storage Tank Inspector Certificate #AST-133458

Condor is proud to announce our capability to perform Above-Ground Storage Tank Inspections thanks to the successful completion of the Steel Tank Institute’s Above-Ground Tank System Inspector Training certificate program by James Montgomery. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently provided an interpretation of the Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) Rule that now requires periodic inspections of above-ground petroleum storage tanks, portable containers and small field-erected tanks subject to the Rule. These inspections must be performed by a certified inspector. Mr. Montgomery and Condor are now part of a small group in California that is certified to perform these inspections in accordance with Steel Tank Institute and EPA requirements.

Condor Joins Technical Advisory Committee of CVCSD

Condor’s ongoing outreach in the chemical risk management and industrial compliance arena included the addition of our Roseville Office in April 2012. In addition, we have now become a technical advisory committee member for the Central Valley Chemical Safety Day (CVCSD) Events. The CVCSD’s mission is “To provide educational opportunities for the awareness and safe use of hazardous chemicals”. We knew that joining this team would not only benefit us in achieving our core values of “. . . safety to underscore all that we do”, but could also encourage others to take action to prevent chemical emergencies.

Condor Provides Geotechnical and Testing Services for Local Transportation Improvements

Condor is currently providing earthwork quality control and concrete testing services for the Eight Mile Road Grade Separation Project in North Stockton and the Sperry Road Extension near French Camp. The Eight Mile Road project consists of two overpasses and one underpass which will provide for continued traffic flow between Interstate 5 and Highway 99. The improvements provide three grade separations for two railroad lines that continue south through Stockton. Condor’s client is Psomas Construction Management and the project is funded by the City of Stockton and Measure K.
